Sysco to Host December Green Team Roundtable
WasteCap Nebraska will end the 2015 season of Green Team Roundtables in Lincoln at Sysco.  Sysco is the global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers who prepare meals away from home.  Sysco will be discussing the distributor’s sustainability efforts, including energy conservation, social responsibility, recycling and more.  Sysco will highlight both their local efforts as well as international efforts to source foods with less pesticides and sustainably harvested food.
WasteCap staff will provide an overview of its new programs for 2016, including a downtown Lincoln Restaurant Recycling and Composting pilot program, webinars, and Zero Waste Business and community planning assistance.
The Roundtable will be held at Sysco-Lincoln, 900 Kingbird Rd, Lincoln, NE 68521 Wednesday, December 9th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Cost is $10 or $8 for WasteCap Nebraska members and includes a zero-waste lunch.

Tyler Mainquist is a Financial Advisor with Central Financial Services / Ameritas Investment Corp., based in Lincoln. Tyler has a BS from UNL’s College of Engineering. Live broadcast to discuss findings of a Statewide Recycling Study and the viability of recycling in Nebraska
WasteCap Nebraska is a partner with the Sustainability Leadership Presentation Series (SLPS) offered through Central and Metro Community Colleges and the Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities.  On Thursday, December 3rd from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., SLPS will be presenting a live webinar from Metropolitan Community College at the Fort Omaha Campus, Building 10 room 110.

Recent findings of a statewide recycling study will be shared by Mark DeKraai, Senior Research Director at University of Nebraska Public Policy Center. The Study highlights regional gaps in recycling access across Nebraska, compares Nebraska’s recycling and diversion rates to surrounding states, and provides recommendations to improve recycling and waste diversion in Nebraska.  Carrie Hakenkamp, Executive Director of WasteCap Nebraska will discuss ways in which diversion can be improved using zero waste concepts and will discuss the  economic viability of recycling.

Recycling Event on Saturday! October 17 from 9-12

Nebraska Recycles is running a recycling event at the West Gate Bank on 6003 Old Cheney.  During the event people may drop off used, broken, or unwanted computers and electronics to us and we will recycle these devices and destroy the information that they contain. This event is open to residential and business customers.

Nebraska Recycles Objectives for the event are:

1) Properly recycle broken and unused computers, laptops, electronics, etc…
2) Destroy the data contained on these devices so that it is not misused
3) Help out the community : Canned food will be accepted and delivered to the Lincoln People’s City Mission, we will be accepting bicycles for MADDADS of Lincoln, and DVD’s will be donated to the DVD’s for Vets program.

We do have a couple restrictions for this event, they are listed on our facebook event page. The most important of which is that we will not be accepting CRT/Projection/the old style large Televisions at this event.  Flat Panels will be accepted.

2015 Sustainable Business Awards Luncheon
WasteCap Nebraska is hosting the 2015 Sustainable Business Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.  Join us to honor the winners and enjoy the company of others that share your business and community values.   The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at The County Club of Lincoln and will feature Mitch Hedlund, founder of Recycle Across America.
Prior to founding the society-wide standardized label initiative Recycle Across America™ in 2010, Mitch has over 20 years of experience in marketing, communications and branding, serving Fortune 500 companies as well as small to midsized companies. In fact, she has relied heavily on those communications and branding disciplines while she developed the society-wide standardized labeling system.
Mitch has proven to be an effective entrepreneur and businessperson by being able to cut through confusion to identify practical opportunities that improve economics, efficacy and participation. She has done this while employed with Dayton-Hudson Department Stores, Fingerhut Companies and when serving her marketing clients for 11 years.
She is a frequent contributor to articles on the subject of recycling and the environment, including Forbes, NY Times and industry publications. Mitch is an ongoing speaker at U.S. conferences and business seminars that have a focus on sustainability and recycling. Additionally, she has been invited to speak internationally, including in Beijing, China, and recently in Brussels, Belgium at the European Union.  Her solutions have been referred to by the NY Times as “one of the most important environmental fixes of today”.
