Residential Curbside Recycling
Convenient, door-to-door recycling has become a major factor in capturing more recyclable materials from households. Each community’s options vary, but there are two main types: community contracts and private subscriptions. Community-contracted curbside service is paid through residents’ utility bills or property taxes, and is frequently provided by a single contractor, ensuring the same level of service throughout the community. Subscription curbside services are provided by a variety of service providers, allowing the cost and type of service to be influenced by the marketplace.
Types of services also vary based on the service provider. Many services require pre-sorting by the resident, for example, newspaper in one bag, all other paper in another bag, etc. In recent years, single stream services have become popular due to their ease of use. Residents put all materials in one container which is emptied into a single-compartment truck. The materials are then sorted at the recycling facility.
Employees of WasteCap Nebraska business members are eligible for a discount on certain curbside services.
